Lets Discuss Business

What is business in the world of pro wrestling? Who is in pro wrestling? And why are they in pro wrestling?

Lets start off with the second question. There are the two obvious answers. The McMahon's in Conneticutt, and the Jarretts's in Nashville. Now there are literaly hundreds of "promotions" across North America. But do the McMahons and the Jarretts think of them selves as "running a promotion"? Absolutly not! The are in business.

Now lets answer question number one, what is business in pro wrestling? Business is marketing and advertising, establishing a brand and delivering that brand to the market place. Now for those of whom have no idea what I am talking about, this is what I mean. They are making wrestlers famous, and putting them on TV. Pretty simple hey?

Not realy!

This takes years of planning and delivering a consistantly good product to the market, which even the biggest companies fail to do by they way. The unfortunate part of this formula is that most "Indy Promoters" rush to put there product to market. No business plan, no marketing structure no strategic plan. and no support to push the promotion in the right direction. This is the business of pro wrestling that you usually see. So what does that mean, well it means that you arent in business, you are just slowly going out of business, or quickly depending on your spending habits.

Now, why are they in business? The belive that they can "become" WWE, or they can book all the older guys , and relive past moments in wrestling history. Is that smart business? It can be, or it can cost you lots of dollars. But for the most part they arent in business, they are "promoting". There are hundreds of promotions around, and most of them fail, and fail miserably. In British Columbia there are several that have lingered around, and have had tons of cash poored into them in a futile effort.

The belief that "we promote the most shows" or "we run 150 shows a year" is a milestone, or a bench mark. Here is a clue, what was your return on your investment last year? or the year before that, what kind of dividends do you recieve every year.? Not a familiar term? Well thank god I am here.

Soon my parters and I will be bringing our product to the market. I will start with our appearance on the Dragons Den, followed up with a media blitz across BC. With the ability to produce TV very quickly, and provide our broadcasters with product within days.

Now I know "Shaun you have been talking about this for a year". It sure doesnt seem like it. There are so many things that are in the works, and on the table that we can't and will not discuss it all as it is corporate information and private. But lets say this, when it is complete, it will be grand, and not debt.....
